All of us were brought up to believe that joint cracking leads to arthritis. Well, as medicine becomes increasingly based on evidence, rather than anecdote, we're finding that some of the things that we've believed for years are just plain wrong. In this case, it is definitely too early to say, but just the opposite may be true: joint cracking may actually ward off osteoarthritis.

A study aimed to determine the incidence of osteoarthritis in 100 men and women (aged on average 59 years) undertaking by Johns Hopkins University compared the incidence in those who cracked their joints and those who didn't. It turns out that Osteoarthritis occurred significantly more often in those who said they never cracked their joints. I'm searching for the actual study and will post the link here, but for now, check out this article from the Reuters Health Service. In the meanwhile, get cracking!
